microDAC® strain - Video extensometer
Universal video extensometer - microDAC® strain

microDAC® strain is a DIN EN ISO 9513 9513 certified optical extensometer for tensile/compression tests that simultaneously measures longitudinal and transverse strains contactlessly and with high accuracy directly on the specimen surface (without additional markings).

The core of the microDAC® strain video extensometer is the VEDDAC strain, software, which captures images time-controlled during the tensile/compression test and determines in-situ changes in length and mean strains on the basis of digital image correlation (DIC).

microDAC® strain can be flexibly integrated and is offered as a software system, basic system and certified optical extensometer.

Applications
Determination of material parameters with highest accuracy without additional markings

microDAC® strain offers users of miniaturized tensile and compression tests in particular new possibilities for the effective determination of material parameters (Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, Elongation at fracture, ...) with highest precision of accuracy class 0.2 according to DIN EN ISO 9513.
microDAC® strain works without additional markings and usually uses the natural material surface as measurement information.

Automated strain measurement in a 5 MPxl camera system or independent with VEDDAC strain for SEM images.

In addition to the classic application as a 5MPxl camera system in tensile/compression testing equipment, the microDAC® strain software - VEDDAC strain - can also be used independently for automated strain measurement on tensile/compression loaded specimens in the scanning electron microscope (SEM).

Optical extensometer for tensile/compression modules from Kammrath & Weiss GmbH

microDAC® strain is offered as a system-integrated video extensometer for tension/compression modules by Kammrath & Weiss GmbH.
Via the interface to the Kammrath & Weiss tensile/compression module, the image of the sample surface is recorded simultaneously with the force measurement and the length changes and mean strains determined in the video extensometer are transmitted in situ to the control software of the tensile/compression module.

Local deformation and damage analysis

The images captured during the tensile/compression test (camera, SEM) can be stored and are thus available for further local area deformation and damage analyses with the VEDDAC 7 image correlation software.
VEDDAC 7 is optionally offered as an additional component for the microDAC® strain.

Technical specifications - software system

Image evaluation software for automated strain measurement with interface for external image sources.

The software system is designed for users who have their own image capturing technology. A software extension to external image sources enables an automated strain measurement of images from any camera systems and image sources, e.g. images from scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

System components:
  • Software VEDDAC strain
  • Software extension to external image sources
Technical specifications - Basic system

Camera-based video extensometer for miniaturized tensile/compression testing equipment without optics.

The basic system is designed for users who already have suitable optical components (microscope, tripod assemblies with optics, illumination, and so on).

System components:
